The general rules
The entrance for a Czech state high schools is based on the general competition. After passing all the steps of examinations the entrants who have taken leading places according to total sum of points are accepted. The quantity of the accepted students is established according to high school availability and educational programs of the Ministry of Education, youth and physical training of Czech republic.
The quantity of the submitted applications is not limited, therefore the entrants can apply simultaneously for some specialties or some high school. To choose a high school is necessary before the registration of the semester .
Order and entrance terms
* Filing of application (in the majority of high schools till the end of February)
* Receiving of the invitation to examinations (April - May)
* Passing examinations (May - June)
* Receiving of the acknowledgment of acceptance (June - July)
* Registration for studies (July - September)
* Studies beginning (September - October)
The note: high schools with creative directions (the fine arts, architecture, design, a sculpture, cinema, theater, music etc.) starting of introduction programs half a year before others. Applications are accepted till the end of November (the previous year before the training beginning), and examinations are passed within January-February. However, the semester begin as in all high schools, - in September-October. It is connected with high competition on the mentioned specialties. Examinations are started earlier in order to give a chance to all who have not passed introductory tests, could choose something else until the next semester in high schools begins.
Examinations
Depending on a specialty and the high school examinations can have following forms:
* A Test (common )
* An Oral examination (interview)
* An Essay or thesis
* Homework submission or the list of the read literature
To one chosen specialty are 2-3 examinations should be passed. The majority of them are tests. Interviews and an essay are used at humanitarian and language faculties. In the majority of specialties one of entrance examinations is the foreign language with choice possibility.
All examinations (except of foreign languages examinations) are passed in the Czech language.
